don't make then so big ...

Here on the things you need to work on ....
Blending
The Background
Style
Depth
Colors
Flow

How to fix these problems ....

Blending: A big mistake that a lot of people do is they chnage the Blending Option's which never really works out ... What you sould do is place ur render/stock into ur tag and add some effects over the render so if ur layers are like

Layer 1 : background
Layer2 : Render
Then Later 3 till onward would normally be effects

But what happens with the people that are starting out they like to have their layer like this

Layer 1 : Background
Layer 2 : effects
Layer 3 : render (with blending option)

^^^ big mistake^^^

Background : Like I said people who start off like the effects to be behide the render which sort of creates the background BUT you sould never create a background as you start offf fromt he background. You sould start off with a stock photo , plain bg fill or sumthing simple ... (I normally just fill the bg) after you fill the bg you place ur render and add effect.

Style : Well this is not really something to do with photoshop its self but very important. You need to make sure that the type of tag's u making are in style so ya grunge style is out .. stop making then and try somthing else :P

Depth : This is a very hard one to explain .. What you need to do is make the tag look really As if it was a picture u toke or sumthing like that .. A good way to add depth is to blur the tag a little eg

layer 1000 : Image > Apply Image , now goto filter > Blur
Now take that layer and erase around the focal to only the bg is blured but that focal is still sharp (when u erase around the focal use a soft brush with a low opacity)

Colors : Another thing people like to do is look at the render/stock and add the same colors eg if ur render is blue then u will add blue effect >> wrong .. if you render is blue u will add a different color like light pink but still add some blue so that u don't over do it with the other color :)

Flow : your tag needs to go in a direction ... eg if your render if superman and he is flying to the left you will add the effects on the left moving towards the right so make it seem as if he is flying ( I guess its like if you focal is going left then your effects go left etc) ... read some tuts and u will see what I mean ..

yeah and try to sway around from using grunge brushes too much unless you know how to use them without getting the grungy feeling to the sig
